Review for "Gregor the Overlander" by Suzanne Collins

Like many other books I have read, this book involves a kid who finds another world amidst his own and travels through a quest to kill the big bad guy and save his papa.

In this book the kid, a boy named Gregor, quests the new world with his 2 year old sister, Boots, and a gang of sword-wielding companions. They trek through colonies of 4-foot tall friendly cockroaches, XL bats who are used as transportation, enormous neutral spiders who are a little less-than-friendly, and hulking evil rats in order to fulfill a prophecy written hundreds of years ago.

The book involves some death and a description of the aftermath of a war.  Overall this book can be read by anyone 11+ but if the reader is under 10 and not yet accustomed to the next level of reading, guidance could be suggested.

The Impossibilities of Making a Major Motion Picture (movie)

When you think about making a movie you would most likely think about big money, seeing your face on the big screen and walking down a red carpet with enough flashing cameras to make you blind.  That may be true but only with the time and stresses of actually making the movie.  The movie set and filming do contain the director yelling action, that clipper thing to show when the movie started and all that techie equipment and lighting.  What you don’t realize is that you can spend nine hours just doing one scene that will take at the most three minutes in the entire movie.  This is because a character locks himself out of the car or a kid waves into the camera.  Anyways, if you do get into a movie then just don’t expect to do the rest of your daily routine.  I know this because I was an extra in a movie production this past week.  I can’t wait until I can do it again!

Playland Review

Yo blog-readers!

I have just recently went to Playland, an adreneline filled, concrete field, splattered with heaping chunks of metal that twist you, turn you, drop you, lift you, and much more!

One of the rides I recommend would be Crazy Beach Party.  Though it may look scary, the closest thing to scary is the avoidabe large quantities of arenaline you get when you are at the top and can actually see where the ground is.  I would gladly rate this ride for age seven and older or good fun seeking six year olds.  I would not recommended this ride for people who are prone to motion sickness.
I give it three and a half stars (***1/2)

Another ride I enjoy is the Enterprise.  When looking at it up close, most may choose to avoid it due to the fact that the cage you sit in has no seat belts.  That fact isn't a worry because of g-force!  This ride is not to be underestimated.  It revolves at speeds so fast that each cage lifts horizontally and then the whole ride goes vertical making the riders have a lift and fall feeling.  Later you will be happy to have your feet touch the ground again.  Recommended for ages six and up, though not for people with dizziness problems or motion sickness.
I give it four stars (****)

Lastly, I am reviewing the Atmosphere.  A ride that is a spinning swing set that reaches a height similar to the Hellevator ensuring fantabulous* veiws of Playland.  The Atmosphere, like the Enterprise, might be underestimated for seating safety but on top of the metal bar (which is actually electronically locked so that it can't be unlocked until the ride is over) the Atmosphere also has seat belts ensuring safe riding.  This ride is great for ages 6 and up as long as rider does not feel insecure by heights or thinness of chains.
I give it five stars (*****)

thank you for reading my review and over all I rate Playland two thumbs up with ensured smiles :)
*Fantabulous=fantastic + fabulous

Eragon Review

Yo post-readers!

I have just recently read my most favorite book in the whole wide world! Done by my new most favorite author in the world: Christopher Paolini

The book is about a teenage boy named Eragon who lived in the medieval ages and happened to find a strange stone.  Later finding that it is a dragon egg thus making him the first dragon rider since the dragon riders realm decades ago.  Not long after the dragon whom is now named Saphira becomes large and unable to hide her, Eragon is forced to leave his village of Carvahall to be assisted by an old man as
he is plunged into troubles larger than hiding his dragon…

to find out more information, you must read the book.

Marshmallow MADNESS!!!

On our 1st science experiment of the second term of the school year, we roasted marshmallows in a microwave oven.  Now believe me it's way different than roasting them on a camp fire.  Well there are only two differences and you'll like them.  Okay the first one is that the radiation waves in the microwave cause a chemical reaction with the stuff inside the marshmallow and then the marshmallow will grow up to three to five times the size.  When you take the now very large marshmallow out of the microwave oven it will shrink slightly and cool down.  The second difference is that it will taste like toffee.  Well good luck trying it on your own!

The Best Imaginary Day Ever

The best imaginary day ever was when I got a super suit super powers and super battle vheicle. So it all started when I was in school we were playing dodge ball. My feet felt weird so I went out for a bit and looked at them. they were darker and brighter in some spots so I guessed it was just sweat but it wasn't because the same thing happened to my hands at math and on top of that whenever I touched something it shaked first so you can see why I was dying to get home. so when I got home I went straight to my room room to check it out but It just gotten worse. or better If you had to say it because at the top two stairs I got heavier but it was noticably easier to hold up my weight but when I got to my room some glass object was over my eyes so when I looked at my body it was way more than high tech. the technology was worth far more than a million but I knew it was over twice the money I knew that because the glass was scanning everything on me and the screen was filled. for the first time I tried touching the technology but instead of two hands it was four and all of them were identicle so I was going to get my phone but when I turned around the phone floated towareds me but I made it float back when I saw a bump in everyones front yard all had different shapes and none of the people seemed to notice the shapes jiggled a bit and then turned into detailed shapes that looked like made up vheicles then gained colour and fell into a white portal.  so I randomly without thinking jumped out expecting to hit a hard ground I was floating there could only be one reason I couled fly I tried to get into one of the portalsbut they dissapeared shortly after that instead I was sucked into one myself.  It wasn't one of those twirly ones It just went straight down I fell onto a hard ground but It didn't damage me. as I looked every vheicles and they were just like the ones I saw on every bodys front yard it seemed strange but in another way it didn't seem strange at all.  I took a few steps the dark cave made an echo I tried to look at where the only light was produced but it looked like it was coming out of nowhere.  Then I saw a cool vhiecle it had four legs, treads on every one  and a curled tail on the back with a bunch of missile machine guns on the tip I tried touching it but I got sucked into the command seat at that very second.  The controls seemed easy exept the big mysterious red button in the middle and the six pipes around me.  I put my feet In two of them, arms in two of them, and the two arms behind my shoulders in two of them, it seemed like I was putting my hands and feet into gloves and shoes I moved around a bit got my hands onto the controls and like all kids would do I pressed the big red button in the middle . . . .

My Favourite Fall Experiences

My favourite fall experiences have been my birthdays. I loved the anticipation and when my birthday would come I would be so happy.

I would examine the shape and size of every present. Although I would not be allowed to shake and hear the present because some sounds are give aways and simple to predict. Either way it's fun to rip the wrapping paper off and find out what the amazing object inside is. Then I go to the next present. In the end I look at the presents and wrapping paper and I have wrapping paper fights with my family. The day after that I open the presents and play with them or build some of them.

THE END

Great Wolf Lodge

This weekend the Akkerman and Ostenbrink family went to Great Wolf lodge, it's a big hotel with a swimming pool, games room, two restraunts etc. It also has a program called MagiQuest it's where you get a wand and you go through a hunt trying to find objects and earn things after that you go through three more courses which you need certain objects you've earned to do and in one you have to fight a dragon. and there's a swimming pool. It's SO HUGE there's a totally thrilling ride called the HOWLIN' TORNADO the tube your in can hold up to a maximum of 4 people and is AWSOME!!! it's like an ordinary ride until... you do an almost verticle drop really fast and then you go in giant U's with a little over mist falling from the top you do that until your out an

I am studying the mystery of history! Last week I created an animal. It is called a Saurus. It has spots all over it, it is a great hunter, and much more. It is a carnivore. It only eats dangerous animals.

My Homeschooling Adventure

Hello,

Today I did homeschooling. At first so we did Math. It was fun, and I didn't have to do a lot of work. For math and I learned how to multiply with two digit numbers.

We also did an art project . We walked around the neighborhood and picked up leaves. We then glued the leafs onto construction paper then used marker to make funny pictures.

Today is my eighth day on using my crystal growing kit. It is fun and it looks like the rock is on a crystal plate. We put the water the rock was in into a separate cup hoping there will be more crystals inside the cup.

Now we are working with Dragon Naturally Speaking. I used Dragon Naturally Speaking to write this article.

Sincerely: Noah

Crystal Growing Kit Experiment - Day 8

After eight days the crystals are somewhere around eight millimeters tall and one to two millimeters thick. We removed the crystals & the rock from the container, it looked like the rock was on a crystal plate. We put the water in a cup (we hope more crystals grow in the plastic cup).
